Default Shock and outrage as soldier killed in war

There was anger today as it was revealed that a British soldier had been killed whilst fighting in a war. The parents of Private John Smith said, ‘We would never have supported him signing up to the Army if we’d realised it was dangerous.’

Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth admitted his surprise that troops had been killed. He said ‘Like everyone else I assumed no one was in any actual danger. The news that soldiers die in battle has caught us all on the hop’. Mr Ainsworth was however keen to point out that this was in no way typical of what normally happens in war and that this incident shouldn’t put anybody off of signing up for active, frontline duty.
