Team of the Week
(4-2-3-1) GK: Hans-Joerg Butt (Bayern) - The veteran keeper pulled off two penalty saves at the Stade Chaban-Delmas against Bordeaux as well as a catalogue of others; despite losing, the 2-1 scoreline would have been very different but for the German. - - - RB: Gary Neville (Manchester United) - Red Nev put in a solid performance for United in Moscow, creating chances with crosses and almost scoring a glorious opener with a cultured left-footed curler that just cleared the bar and landed on top of the net. CB: Sebastien Squillaci (Sevilla) - Squillaci netted twice to cap a fine display for Sevilla. The French defender was commanding at the back and always a threat in Stuttgart's penalty area. CB: Matteo Ferrari (Besiktas) - Alongside Tomas Sivok the Italian formed one half of a resolute central defence that helped shut out the prolific Edin Dzeko in Wolfsburg. LB: Gabriel Heinze (Marseille) - The former Manchester United defender scored the winning goal and drew on his vast experience to expertly marshal the French club's back four. - - - RM: Yossi Benayoun (Liverpool) - The Israeli midfielder was the one Liverpool player who looked like creating something against Lyon. The Kop knew it too and booed Rafa Benitez's decision to replace him with five minutes to go. CM: Taras Mykhalyk (Dynamo Kiev) - Mykhalyk was a commanding presence in midfield against Internazionale and opened the scoring with a cool right-footed finish in the fifth minute as his side earned a superb point at the Giuseppe Meazza. LM: Alexander Ryazantsev (Rubin Kazan) - The midfielder unleashed hell from 30 yards to put Rubin one up inside the first minute before they incredibly went on to defeat European champions Barcelona in the Camp Nou. - - - RF: Alexandre Pato (Milan) - A brace - including last-minute winner - from the livewire Brazilian was enough to see off the challenge of Real Madrid and get Milan's campaign back on track. CF: Marius Bilasco (Unirea Urziceni) - Bilasco was instrumental for his side as they thrashed Rangers 4-1 at Ibrox - and capped his performance with a clinical finish in the 33rd minute to give them the lead. LF: Adrian Mutu (Fiorentina) - His brace inside the first 20 minutes gave La Viola a 3-1 lead over Debrecen which they nearly squandered - but those two strikes proved decisive in a 4-3 win for the Italian side.
